JOIN YLL
Members
YLL members are teachers, researchers and educational administration and management level employees serving in universities under different titles. They all have one thing in common, namely that they work in a university.
Joining YLL
By joining YLL, you also join the Trade Union of Education in Finland (OAJ).
You can join YLL by completing the online form. If you need assistance with the form, please locate the chair of your local YLL member association, and s/he will assist you with filling out the relevant information in the form. You find the contact information at YLL > Member associations.
Membership fee
The membership fee is 1.15 % of your salary before taxes. The membership fee is fully tax-deductible and the tax authorities will observe it automatically without separate notification. Unemployed members and members on unpaid leave pay a membership fee of EUR 8,50 per month.
If you membership fee is not being collected by your employer for any reason or you do not currently have an employer, please contact OAJ (https://yhteydenotto.oaj.fi/).
Parallel membership
If you wish, you can continue your membership in the Akava trade union relevant to your degree in addition to becoming an OAJ member. OAJ has parallel membership agreements with the Finnish Business School Graduates (formerly the Finnish Association of Business School Graduates, SEFE), the Union of Professional Engineers in Finland and Academic Engineers and Architects in Finland (TEK).
OAJ is the only trade union which safeguards the interests of teaching and education employees, which is why it is always the primary choice of trade union for employees in the field in case of parallel membership. Members often pay a discount fee for their membership in the other union.
For more information, see the OAJ website under parallel membership (in Finnish).
